أدت النساء الأمريكيات أدواراً مهمة في الحياة السياسية في الولايات المتحدة الامريكية، لا سيما في المجال التشريعي، حيث برزت العديد منهن في المجالس التشريعية بالولايات وفي الكونغرس بمجلسيه النواب والشيوخ. وقد تجلّى دورهن بوضوح من خلال عضويتهن في اللجان البرلمانية، وإسهامهن الفعّال في صياغة القوانين وتقديمها وإقرارها، فضلاً عن الدور الرقابي الذي اضطلعن به.
ومن أبرز هذه الشخصيات، هاتي أوفيليا وايت كارواي ، التي كانت أول امرأة تُنتخب لعضوية مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي، واول امرأة انتخبت لرئاسة مجلس الشيوخ الامريكي , فضلاً عن ذلك ترأست اول لجنة وجلسة استماع للمدة من 1932-1945، وأدّت دوراً متميزاً في لجان المجلس ومشاريع القوانين التي تم التصديق عليها، ولاسيما تلك المتعلقة بالزراعة والموارد المائية ودعم ولايتها "أركنساس"، بالإضافة إلى مواقفها المؤثرة تجاه قضايا الفقر، وحقوق المرأة، والحقوق المدنية.
